Montecatone, the ancient Montis Castrum, between Imola and Bologna, on the border where Emilia meets Romagna. Look as far as your eye can see, and then stop and listen to your breathing; this will probably be the only sound you will hear during your visit to the Montecatone Estate, a winery perched on a hillside at 280 metres above sea level. The soil has a very special characteristic: rocks! Thanks to a vein of rocky soil running through the vineyards, the water drains constantly which prevents the roots from drowning.

A story of passion begins up here and is carried out on 42 hectares of which 26 are planted with Sangiovese, Albana, Merlot and Cabernet grapes. They are young and vigorous vines, having been re-planted in the last ten years using the most up-to-date techniques and driven more by a desire to revitalize the area than by economic reasons.

The result is a small landscaped jewel where rows of grapes alternate with rows of apricot trees and natural lakes, and where the joy of what you see is the best reward for the commitment and work involved.
